Make Yourself Valuable and become Rich
A fellow who can do a task very well without complaining of being overwork and a person who can get people to do a task perfectly without complaining are valuable resource in any organization.
Some 45 years ago, a young banker resigned for a new job and made it a priority to be notice by his boss. He stayed behind after closing hour to see if he could be of service to his boss. Carol Downes was not paid for staying behind but for the hope that he could be of slight service to his new boss.
Mr. William Durant, founder of General Motors was surprised by this selfless act. He was rewarded for his effort and later became the manager of the new plant of General Motors.
Long years afterwards, a friend asked Carol Downes how he got his opportunity with Mr. Durant. ‘Oh’, he modestly replied, ‘I just made it my business to get in his way, so he could see me. When he look around, wanting some little service, because I was the only one on sight. In time, he got into the habit of calling on me’.
Mr. W. Durant found out Carol Downes was not only the one on sight when he needed any service but saw in him a person that could assume responsibilities by going the extra miles to get a job done. The problem with many of us is that we see people who have ‘made it’ we celebrate and want to be like them without taking the pain or trouble of learning what and how they made it. Take the pain to learn and offer your knowledge as a service, millions of people will pay to have your knowledge. Remember Heaven is your limit!
